Nico, Julia and I spent much of the past week working on yesterday's shoot for our first episodes of the La Comida Aborigen show. We shot three episodes and a series of short webisodes or mobisodes featuring brief aboriginal cooking tips and ingredients. The first two full episodes we have mapped out are built around the two main staples of the ancient American diet, corn and potatoes, their history, how they are prepared, served and eaten.
The third episode, recommended by both Maria and Rodrigo, was about chipá, a kind of cheese bread typically made from corn flour. It doesn't sound very aboriginal, but is a standard item of the Andean diet, prepared in many different ways and carried almost as a kind of native energy bar. (click below for slideshow)
After spending an hour or so setting up lighting, testing for sound, playing with camera angles, and shooting general set up footage, Nico and Lucas G. filmed straight through the day and into the night using a two camera set up and separate wireless clip-on mics for Maria and Rodrigo. We ate whatever Maria and Rodrigo cooked all day long, which was a wonderful reward.
We finished at 10:30 pm, and I walked down to a local mini-mercado and picked up two large bottles of beer for a final toast at the end of the shoot! A few photos from the day are included here.
